WOLFSBURG, Germany, October 29, 2026 — Volkswagen Group reported a 39% year-on-year increase in European orders for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) during the first nine months of 2026, according to its financial results published on Thursday.
Electric vehicles accounted for approximately 40% of the Group’s outstanding European vehicle orders at the end of September. The automaker also reported about 150,000 orders for its Electric Urban Car Family, a range of smaller battery-electric cars sold under several Volkswagen Group brands.
European BEV orders rise 39% in nine months
The company said its total European order intake across all powertrains increased by 4% to around 3.0 million vehicles between January and September 2026, compared with approximately 2.9 million in the same period of 2025. Over that interval, order intake for battery-electric vehicles increased by 39%.
The European order bank — vehicles ordered but not yet delivered — rose by 11% compared with the end of 2025, reaching about 1.1 million units. Battery-electric models represented roughly two-fifths of that order bank at September 30.
The 39% figure refers to incoming European BEV orders, not worldwide electric-car sales or deliveries. The approximately 40% figure refers to the European order bank, rather than the share of all vehicles already sold.
Electric Urban Car Family receives 150,000 orders
Volkswagen Group said the jointly developed Electric Urban Car Family had already attracted around 150,000 orders. The programme covers four smaller electric cars: the Volkswagen ID. Polo, Volkswagen ID. Cross, Škoda Epiq and CUPRA Raval.
In its related Brand Group Core report published on October 30, the company said the models are produced under the project leadership of SEAT & CUPRA at facilities in Martorell and Pamplona, Spain. The Group expects cross-brand development to generate synergies over the models’ lifecycles.
Volkswagen’s nine-month financial results
The Group reported sales revenue of €233.4 billion for January–September 2026, compared with €238.7 billion one year earlier. Its reported operating result was €71 million, versus €5.4 billion in the first nine months of 2025. Before special items, the 2026 operating result amounted to €8.8 billion.
Volkswagen attributed the difference between its reported and adjusted operating results to special items totalling €8.7 billion, including impairment charges and restructuring-related effects. The company’s Automotive Division generated net cash flow of approximately €4.4 billion over the nine-month period.
Vehicle sales totalled 5.88 million during January–September 2026, compared with 6.58 million a year earlier. Volkswagen noted that growing demand for electric vehicles was taking place alongside pressure on profit margins, because EVs currently generate lower margins for the Group than combustion-engine models.
