Rivian Begins Deliveries of Longer-Range Electric Vans and All-Wheel-Drive Variants

Rivian said upgraded electric delivery van variants began reaching customers in early October 2026, including an all-wheel-drive option and a battery offering 30% more range.

IRVINE, California, October 29, 2026 — Rivian said it has started delivering upgraded versions of its electric delivery van, adding an all-wheel-drive configuration and an option for a larger battery pack designed to extend range by 30%.

The US automaker disclosed the deliveries in materials accompanying its third-quarter 2026 financial results. Rivian said shipments of the new versions began in early October and are intended to support a broader set of delivery routes, including operations in rural areas.

All-wheel drive for difficult delivery routes

Rivian’s electric commercial vehicle range has been developed for delivery fleets. The new all-wheel-drive configuration is intended to improve traction on routes affected by difficult terrain or inclement weather.

The larger-battery option addresses the longer distances encountered on delivery routes outside dense city centres. In its quarterly presentation, Rivian described the new pack as offering an approximately 30% increase in driving range over the standard configuration.

Rivian did not provide a single combined official range figure for every new variant in its October 29 quarterly presentation. Actual driving range will depend on the final configuration and use conditions.

New configurations are already being delivered

Rivian’s presentation states that deliveries of the new configurations began in early October 2026. The announcement therefore describes a product change already entering fleet operations, rather than a future concept vehicle.

Rivian’s Electric Delivery Van (EDV) platform was developed for Amazon. The manufacturer also offers its Rivian Commercial Van platform to other business customers. The vans are designed for fleet management and last-mile delivery operations, with integrated driver and cargo-area features.

Amazon fleet continues to expand

Amazon remains a major customer for Rivian’s electric vans in North America. Rivian said the additional configurations are designed to expand the kinds of routes that the fleet can serve, including longer journeys and conditions where additional traction is useful.

Separate regulatory filings and automotive reports have described larger-pack versions, but Rivian’s principal quarterly announcement focused on the availability of the new configurations and the approximate 30% increase in range, rather than announcing final specifications for every variant.

Rivian’s commercial-vehicle programme

The company reported the van updates alongside its third-quarter financial results and other developments in its electric vehicle business. The commercial vehicles are part of its wider manufacturing and vehicle-software activities.
